I found this very interesting as the churches are clinging to views held a thousand years ago and included in the Holy Bible as ‘God’s word’ and therefore immutable. The bible as many bibles of different faiths were written by men, and inspired no doubt, by what was good for the times, or them.
I’ve often thought that it is time for a new religion. If you take out the myths, history and fairy tales and leave in the goodness, morals and love that is written for humanity, in all the religions or ideologies, we might get a good kind, caring world.
The human race tends to look back instead of forward, and what is learned is often hidden and put aside for power and monetary reasons.

A very traumatic experience for you.
This happened seven years ago but in the past few years this type of incident has become more common. We people who live in what used to be safe rural areas are now locking our doors. I am having my outer doors outfitted with more substantial locks and now even the fear of what might happen has moved into our minds. The bad world was out there but now it’s here.

Thanks, Kim! I’m surprised when I read this every few years to find that it does, indeed, still ring true. There are things in it that are dated but the same speech, with new names and situations, could be given today. This was 1997 — we were living in Ottawa and William was a toddler. I was working from home, freelancing for a number of different publications at that point.

Thanks for this wonderful article. I grew up in Trail BC and played hopscotch on hot summer days just like the one we are having in Oakville ON today. I loved the game,could hardly wait to get started and hated when the street lights went on and we had to go home.
