I’m surprised when I read this every few years to find that it does, indeed, still ring true. There are things in it that are dated but the same speech, with new names and situations, could be given today. This was 1997 — we were living in Ottawa and William was a toddler. I was working from home, freelancing for a number of different publications at that point.
